Jesus delivered a demon-oppressed man who had been oppressed for a long time (v.27). After his deliverance, he went back to his town, restored back to his hometown, and became a herald of the Gospel. Oppression comes in many ways. It may be religious, social, economic, or political. Jesus dominated and defeated them the work of the demon; proclaiming that He is the Lord of all creation, whether the physical world or the spiritual world. Jesus can miraculously deliver us from our oppressors, restore us back to our identity, and introduce new ways of living for Him. Our identity belongs to Him.

However, they were caught in a tempest one that they couldn’t handle. Jesus calmed the storm and brought peace to their hearts. This miracle highlighted Jesus’ lordship over the wind. This miracle showed Jesus’ lordship over matters that are beyond our control. The storm was just an event to demonstrate that truth. Fear and anxiety are realities that people face today. Jesus’ ability to deliver us from these uncontrollable events leads us to have peace in our hearts and confidence in Him as the Lord of our lives because He Himself is our peace.
