What do you do when your life is turned upside down because of the choices of other people? After a succession of Judean kings who did evil in the sight of the Lord, God sent the people of Judah into exile as punishment for its continued covenant unfaithfulness (2 Chronicles 36). But not everyone who got carried off did evil in the sight of the Lord. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were faithful young men who had to grapple with the question of honoring God in a culture that doesn't acknowledge Him, while personally dealing with the loss of their loved ones and their homeland.

The gospel is of first importance because Christ died and came back to life. He appeared to many witnesses, proving that indeed He is the Son of God and validating our faith in Him. Because of His resurrection, we have hope, we will live with Him, and we proclaim Him.

The gospel is of first importance because Christ suffered and died as the ultimate sacrifice to save humanity from sin. He was afflicted, pierced, and crushed for our transgressions. Scriptures attest that His death was critical and instrumental in bringing us to God.

The Lord promises to shake and dethrone nations and kingdoms and the strength of their armies in order to exalt His servant leaders as His chosen representatives of His kingdom. Let us spur on God‘s people to believe that He will use the shaking of our nation to make the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and Christ.

The people of God have been defiled by their neglect of God’s temple while being busy with building their own houses, resulting in disappointing crops and harvests, but the re-laying of the temple’s foundation will restore his blessing upon his people. Let us then revive our hope in the restoration of the fortunes of God’s people as we prioritize the building of God’s house.
